Trainees perform a safety inspection of a domestic gas installation in an unfinished basement with randomized features. Before starting the training, they will be asked a question on gas meter assessment frequency, such as Sensit Gold’s Calibration requirement. After answering the question, a work order will appear for review. The user will then begin by checking the area for any AOCs (Abnormal Operation Conditions) or hazardous conditions that would prevent the safety inspection. Conditions must be documented and the trainee must ask the customer to remove any objects preventing access to the domestic gas meter. The trainee will then check the meter for electric current using their voltage pen. If a voltage is detected, the user will need to report it and end the inspection. If not, the trainee verifies the information on the systems and that it matches the work order. Next they check meter safety with a visual check for defects such as corrosion, missing or broken seals or dials, an illegal bypass, magnets, or a lack of pipe hangers.

Trainees must also check the safety of the meter testing for gas leaks, tracing the pipe and the surrounding area using a CGI tool. A gas measurement is performed to determine gas levels. Once complete, the trainee must document any defects and declare the appropriate follow-up action. The simulation ends in a review room where trainees can see their performance scores and can complete more inspections as needed.
