Lockout / Tagout

Safely learn OSHA Lockout Tagout energy control procedures for servicing machinery

This training course meets OSHA requirements for Lockout Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Employees will learn what kind of maintenance requires LOTO procedures, how to prepare a work area for shutdown, isolate, lockout, and de- energize all power sources, and verify that the equipment is fully shutdown and non-operational. Then restore the machine back to working order. Group LOTO training is also included. The training course ends with an assessment where the trainee will perform the procedures in a life-like workplace environment.

What You'll Learn

This training is an easy-to-use and cost-effective way for employees to safely learn and practice on LOTO devices. It covers all the OSHA requirements for LOTO programs while providing a safe, realistic environment to practice electrical safety. Employees will:

  • Identify situations that require Lockout Tagout
  • Use critical thinking skills to determine if a Lockout Tagout procedure is needed
  • Learn the correct order of operations in a LOTO scenario
  • Use a documented machine shutdown procedure
  • Demonstrate the correct safety procedure to shut down a machine for maintenance or repair
  • Reinstate equipment when safe to resume operation
  • Return a machine to safe working order after it has been cleared for use

The VR Experience

The training begins with a preparation module where the user learns what kind of maintenance requires lockout tagout, as well as how to prepare a space removing hazards and notifying workers. The next module requires isolating, powering down and locking out sources of energy—ensuring there is no residual hazardous energy. Users will have access to the proper machine-specific shutdown steps and can refer to them as needed. Employees will also learn Group Lockout, which introduces lock stations, a lock logbook, and a group lockout box. The final module of the training is an assessment that encompasses everything learned from previous modules. The employee will perform inspection of the machines from all angles, physically interacting with machine components like levers, buttons and valves, and complete each objective. This is a pass/fail assessment, but users do get feedback during the training on their performance.
