Pipeline Inspection
Prepare energy and utility inspectors to safely perform pipeline inspection
This pipeline safety training and exam requires inspectors to perform pipeline patrolling activities on a pipeline right- of-way including a pipe section that is suspended on a bridge. Pipeline inspectors are required to recognize and react to any Abnormal Operating Conditions (AOC’s) that could threaten the integrity and safety of the pipeline. Upon completion of the patrolling inspection exam, inspectors must properly document and report their findings to achieve certification.
What You'll Learn
This VR training exam will test the knowledge of inspectors from the energy and gas industry on the following safety measures:
- Line Patrol – Conducting a line patrol according to the inspection requirements for above and below ground lines
- AOC Identification – Accurately recognizing any hazards, broken or outdated markers, incorrect signage, or other AOCs
- Correction – Taking appropriate corrective actions to fix any issues identified during the inspection
- Reporting / Documentation – Properly reporting to dispatch and documenting findings
The VR Experience
This VR simulation for oil and gas pipeline inspector training and testing starts inspectors in a scenarios with a simulated gas line in an outdoor environment. Pipeline inspectors will focus on completing the requirements of looking for Abnormal Operation Conditions (AOCs) along a mile long stretch of line, and inspecting, documenting, and correctly reporting any found AOCs. There are three different scenarios in this certification training: residential, a dirt road, or a bridge. Once a scenario is selected, the inspector must read the work order, then demonstrate their knowledge of performing a pipeline inspection for safety hazards. Potential hazards they could encounter during testing include: a locked gate, bent or broken marker, gas leak, broken and blowing pipe, tarnished signage, sign with incorrect phone number, an exposed pipe, a broken or bent pipe, and a damaged or broken pipe hanger. AOCs identified during inspection must then be documented and reported to the correct persons such as supervisors or dispatchers. The exam ends when all documentation is completed and submitted through the system. The pipeline inspector is then taken to a grading room where they can view the results of their exam, then retry the VR simulation as needed to achieve certification.
