COURSE OVERVIEW

The IECEx 004, 007 & 008 — Ex Maintenance and Inspection course at iSkills provides intermediate-level training in the maintenance and inspection of explosion-protected equipment and wiring systems in hazardous areas. Aligned with the IEC 60079 series, the course covers preparation, execution, and documentation of maintenance and inspection activities 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • Prepare for and carry out maintenance of Ex equipment and wiring systems
  • Prepare for and inspect Ex equipment and wiring systems
  • Complete all required maintenance and inspection documentation accurately
  • Apply compliance methods and safe working practices in hazardous area environments
  • Work in accordance with IEC 60079 series standards for Ex maintenance and inspection

Pre-Assessment Knowledge Required

  • Common explosion protection techniques and Ex principles
  • Installation standards and testing requirements in hazardous areas
  • Compliance methods and Ex certification schemes
  • Explosion protection checks and risk limitation actions
  • Key protection methods: Flameproof (Ex 'd'), Increased Safety (Ex 'e'), Type 'n' (Ex 'n'), and Intrinsic Safety (Ex 'i')

COURSE METHODOLOGY

Option 1 — Classroom + Assessment

1.5 days of instructor-led theory training at an iSkills facility, followed by a 0.5-day formal assessment. The course is theory-based with no practical elements, incorporating various assessment points throughout.

Option 2 — Blended Learning + Assessment

Self-paced online study via the EUTEX E-learning platform, followed by a 0.5-day formal assessment. Ideal for candidates with shift-based schedules or those in remote locations.

Both pathways lead to the same IECEx 004, 007 & 008 certificate.

Note: This is a theory-only course with no practical assessment elements. Assessment points are integrated throughout the training.

WHO SHOULD JOIN?

This course is suitable for professionals at an intermediate level with basic electrical and Ex knowledge, including:

  • Electrical and instrument technicians involved in Ex equipment maintenance and inspection in hazardous locations
  • Maintenance personnel responsible for Ex equipment and wiring systems in classified areas
  • Candidates who have completed IECEx 001 and are progressing within the IECEx personnel competence framework
  • Professionals with a minimum of 3 years of Ex installation experience seeking formal IECEx maintenance and inspection certification

IECEx Module 001 must be attained before this module can be awarded.

Formation

The 2 days course include:

  • Theory only, with no practical elements, and various points of assessment throughout the course

CompEx Certification

  • IECEx Certificate of Personnel Competence — 004, 007 & 008 (Ex Maintenance and Inspection) Successful candidates are awarded the IECEx Certificate of Personnel Competence 004, 007, and 008 by an approved IECEx Certification Body. Enrol at iskills.co.
